I saw this video from a couple of days ago from Discovery News and Trace Dominguez on the hard hitting question, "Are hand dryers better than paper towels." As you all must know, this is an issue near and dear to NetDryers.
Here's the link to the video.
Of course, the term "Better" is subjective at best (does it mean fastest? Most hygienic? Lowest cost? Best for the environment?). Still, I have to give Trace his due - for once, a balanced view! He even mentioned how many of the hygiene studies that favor paper are sponsored by the paper industry! I am duly impressed. I think that the cost savings and the environmental arguments were a little downplayed and the scary germ angle was overplayed, but still, it's pretty fair. Neither side can really lay claim to any public health benefits. Hand dryers are much better in terms of cost per dry and carbon footprint and waste generation. I think that he could have also mentioned the large amount of carbon generated by the transport of paper towels both to the site and in the waste disposal process, but still, it's a pretty even handed video, which is rarely seen as sensationalizing the issue gets more viewers!
People continue to be fascinated by this issue, and we are continually contacted by people interested in this debate. If you would like to discuss this, or,more importantly, if you would like to have an analysis of your facility and the savings you might see by incorporating hand dryers into your bathrooms, give us an email (firstname.lastname@example.org) or call us at 888-629-0685.
